Adapter Ring and Filter Information
What do adapter rings do?
Adapter rings allow the attachment of different sized wide angle lenses, filters and accessories to an existing lens. Step rings are available in step up and step down sizes. To determine which type of ring you need, always start with the filter size that fits on your lens and then compare it to the filter size you want to adapt. If the filter size of the
lens is smaller than the filter size that you want to adapt, then a "Step Up" ring is needed.
Why do I need a filter?
Filters solve a great variety of tasks in photography. They match the illumination to the type of color film; they enhance contrast and colors; they attenuate the amount of incoming light; they can make the structures invisible to our eyes visible to the film; and they offer numerous optical effects for creative composition or for abstractions. Filters make it possible to achieve photographs that simply could not be made without them, and many of them could not be accomplished with subsequent digital image manipulation. The same applies to direct digital photography. gIGI® Optics therefore provides digital imaging filters in diameters and designs suitable for lenses on most current digital cameras and camcorders.
Can I always leave the UV filter on camera & camcorder?
Most photographers and film makers keep a UV filter on their lens permanently, for it prevents your lens against dust, scratches, moisture and perhaps damage due to accidentally dropping your camera or lens. A filter is a lot less expensive than a lens; thus ruining your filter will not be as bad as ruining the front element of your lens and or camera.
